At the heart of every Carolina Skiff boat is our patented box-beam construction made with 100% composite material. The patented construction process begins by prepping, waxing and spraying the mold with a high-gloss exterior gel coat. Then a layer of fiberglass and resin is sprayed into the mold and rolled to eliminate air pockets. Our factory uses only Coast Guard approved foam flotation to build closed-cell logs that are custom-fitted to each Carolina Skiff model. The shaping and forming of each foam log is done with precision to ensure the highest quality. Each foam log is hand-laid with a layer of woven roving fiberglass. Resin is applied between each foam log, creating the box-beam stringer. This process allows for a solid, durable, non-flexing hull without the use of wood in any way. After each foam log is hand-laid in, layers of fiberglass matt and tri-directional fiberglass matt are also laid in by hand. Finally, everything is hand-rolled to squeeze out any air pockets and extra layers of tri-directional matt are used in key stress areas of the hull. Once the entire laying process is complete, the composite material is
given time to cure. Finally, the new hull is pulled from the mold and inspected for quality.
